This autumn, we'll dive deep into one of Shakespeare's most famous and enduring tragedies: Romeo and Juliet.

Over eight weeks, we'll go far beyond simply knowing the story. Together, we'll explore the fascinating complexities of Shakespeare's characters, unpack the powerful themes that shape the play, uncover the historical and social context, and analyse the incredible language, structure and literary techniques that make Romeo and Juliet so much more than a love story.

 

We'll question whether the tragedy is driven by fate, individual choices, family conflict or the actions of others, and examine Shakespeare's ideas about love, violence, masculinity, loyalty, power and social expectations.

 

We'll look closely at the play's most important scenes and quotations, from the famous balcony scene to the devastating final moments, learning how Shakespeare's language changes as the tragedy unfolds and how individual moments connect to the wider story.

 

I'll show you exactly what the examiners are looking for, including the Assessment Objectives, and how to turn your ideas into thoughtful, perceptive, high-scoring essays. 

 

And because these are small-group, live online classes, there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion, questions and personalised feedback.
